Manipulating Freedom
Freedom is the essence and fundamental goal which lays at the heart of your Ultimate Lifestyle, so let us take a moment to define what freedom really means and how you can apply that knowledge while on *your* Quest for the Ultimate Lifestyle.
The meaning of Freedom is generally accepted as the possibility to :
- Do what you want,
- When you want, and
- How you want
So the aim of the Ultimate Lifestyle would be to live your life in a way that…you are free to do what you want, when you want and how you want. Simple! Right?
Almost. There is such a thing as Limitations of Freedom which is the cause of mass confusion in the general public. People mistakenly believe this means that ALL their freedom has limitations on it, rendering the concept of Freedom and true happiness as an ideology not attainable to the average human being. Wrong!
We need to shift from that attitude and realize the truth about our freedom and limitations in order to live the life of our dreams.
It helps to break Limitations of Freedom down into three categories : Natural, Social (Laws and Social Responsibilities) and Psychological (Society and Personal). Let me explain…
NATURAL :
Being human beings, there are natural, universally imposed limitations on what we can do. We are governed by the physical needs of our bodies, the aging process, menstrual cycles, the Law of Gravity and so on. These are limitations imposed by our natural world which every single human being is subject to as the very nature of our existence on earth.
SOCIAL :
Laws – All civilizations are governed by laws. In Western societies, these laws are designed to protect their citizens and culture by imposing regulations and limitations on behavior. The laws regulate freedom in order to ensure it for the greater benefit of the population. Being a citizen automatically comes with the responsibility of living within these laws; similiar to your parents lecturing you about “when you are in MY house, you play by MY rules”…
Social Responsibility – The fact that you live within the community and therefore utilize the communities resources (water, electricity, waste management, recycling etc) comes with the social responsibility of paying for those conveniences in order to ensure the sustainability of the system, again for the benefit of the entire population. It is also necessary that we pay for all living expenses too. The problem for you here is that this usually translates into having a j.o.b. which severely limits the freedom of your time.
Unless you want to live in total isolation as a recluse and “be free from society”, then society will always, by reason of necessity, limit our freedom in the form of laws and social responsibilities.
PSYCHOLOGICAL :
Society – Society places psychological limitations on us in the form of traditions and expectations. We are raised to believe that the life model of : Education – Work – House – Mortgage – Family – Work, Work, Work – Grandchildren – Retire – “Enjoy” – Die, is the default lifestyle design and the only standard and method available for living, making it difficult to imagine a non-conforming lifestyle.
Personal – personal limitations are those that we impose on ourselves through poor self esteem and negative, pessimistic attitudes.
The good news is that psychological limitations are NOT natural laws or socially imposed so they do not have to be abided by, the only enforcement here is that of peer-pressure and the constant reaffirmation of our negative beliefs, which can be overcome with courage and awareness.
So, while it is true that there are inherent limitations to pure freedom, what it does mean for you is that when creating your Ultimate Lifestyle, your best life, you can choose to live a life free of the psychological limitations imposed by society and yourself and design an unconventional lifestyle born from your desires; and with a little creativity and determination you can shape your situation and develop different income streams which will allow you to still live with virtue and within the social responsibility realm but maximizing the freedom you have on your time, which when actualized will have tremendous repercussions on the quality of your life.
You deserve to be happy and be free, so take ownership of your life and create it that lifestyle situation!
