How to Earn Money Online – Part 3

For those of you interested in how to earn money online – or more specifically, those of you who are interested in knowing how I am doing making money online – here’s a little update summarized into three simple words :

Nil and void.

Okay, slight exaggeration but pretty close to the mark.

Here is a summary of how to earn money online and my attempts at doing so:

Generating Traffic
General traffic and average user time spent perusing this website is trending up, which is promising and keeps me going with a glimmer of hope. Traffic = money. However, traffic is still relatively low in the grand scheme of big money making blogs / websites so my number one priority is focusing on traffic generation. Watching every video tutorial possible, analyzing every so-called-experts tips and implementing where possible, trialing traffic generating software to see if that will help. However the most important element is quality content, so spending at least an entire day or two writing longer, more explanatory articles…

Advertising and Products
Do we have to discuss this? In terms of how to earn money online – advertising is the number one way to go – create a high traffic website then sell advertising space and / or affiliate products. Well, that’s the idea anyway. Google Adsense is the most revered authority for this and so I had Google Adsense installed from day 1. However I have been less than impressed so far. From what I can ascertain in the forums, it really is a case of trial and error, so messing around with it and trying new things until something works, but just recently Google Adsense seems to have gone mysteriously off-line and are now only showing Public Service adverts which are useless because they do not make me any money – literally a waste of space, so in this case – traffic does NOT = money. To fix this, I am about to start exploring affiliate sales programs for products relevant to the Ultimate Lifestyle philosophy, and exploring the possibility of creating my own products for purchase…

Donations
Donations have long been a method for revenue generation for bloggers. The idea is that we spend our time blogging about things that you are interested in, and ideally something that you get some value from, and you reward our efforts by donating to our noble causes. So far, donations have been my biggest revenue earner, shooting up over the Christmas and New Years season. Bless all those who had a heart and donated to an underprivileged blonde during those very cold winter months. Those donations were quickly reinvested into automatizing some functions on this website. Free Life Coaching
Well, obviously because it’s FREE, I am not making money from this, but the arrangement is, I offer you FREE Life Coaching via Skype and you show your appreciation by helping me with word of mouth advertising – just tell you friends and family about the Ultimate Lifestyle Project and send them the link. Easy. It really is my way of giving something back to the world, but also an ideal opportunity to generate extra traffic. In the long term, this is giving me invaluable experience and one day – when I’m much older – I will be able to use this experience as a platform to do bigger and better things.

Search Engine Optimization and Keyword Targeting
Understanding SEO and keywords are essential to any online business success – blogging or otherwise. Unfortunately my lack of technical, SEO and keyword knowledge has been my downfall so far. Just as I start to flush with pride and think that I have finally figured everything out, I realize that my keyword strategy is not going to work for X and Y reasons so have to spend at least a day revisiting the keyword strategy. Frustrating, time consuming and generally leaves me feeling like a Rabbies laden dog going insane chasing it’s own tail around in circles. This is the steepest and hardest learning curve of them all – but one you must overcome if you want to have success online. Do not give up! Every time you / I do something wrong, it is a step in the right direction because it is something new we have learned. The law of probability states that there is a limit to how much we can get wrong, which means that the more times we do get it wrong, the closer we are to there not being anything else that we can possibly get wrong – which means that there will eventually come a time when we can only get everything right (as long as we learn from our mistakes!). I am very, very much looking forward to that day.

How to Earn Money Blogging

In summary, I am still learning, and making some big mistakes in the process, but with every post / new article and every passing day, my website is gaining “authority” and it really is just a matter of time before I fully get my head around the entire keyword and SEO side of things. Thanks to Market Samurai, keyword research has become a million times easier (thoroughly recommend anyone to purchase Market Samurai who is even considering starting an online business – they have fantastic tutorials and forums to help you get started).

My very humble goal is to get to a minimum level of earning $500 per week from advertising / product sales from this website and continue growing it from there.  I know I can do it. I just have to figure out how. Watch this space and learn how to earn money online, or at least learn from my mistakes!
