Judgement Days : Day Two
Feeling upbeat and excited. Yesterday I hustled hard for work. Applied for every English teaching job there was, regardless of how far out of town it was. Most requested that the applicant be formally qualified but some hinted at the fact that personality and charisma was just as important as the qualification, which was good news for me since I have no qualifications and minimal experience. I pulled my CV out of the dusty electronic archives of my laptop, tailed it to suit the teaching positions and sent it to everyone I could. Only one agency replied and we had a first telephone interview today. I nailed it and they have asked me to go for a second interview next Wednesday, which is great, however the hours available do not meet my needs. After doing the math, I need to “work” between 10 to 15 hours each week to cover all my expenses plus some, but I am confident something is going to come through… it is not ideal to be stepping back into “employee” based work again, rather than self employed, but hey, a girl has to do what a girl has to do to ensure I can stay in Madrid.
There was a GREAT party last night at a GREAT club called… Club 7. It was in the basement of a huge building. As a general rule of thumb, if you ever have to descend or ascend a spiraling staircase to get into a club, then chances are it is going to be a good club with a quality sound system, and Club 7 did not disappoint. But it wasn’t the club that enticed me there last night, it was my all time favorite DJ and music producer, Harry AXT aka Daniel Steinberg from Berlin who did it. His creativity borders on freaky. I love it. He was on the DJ lineup and being my idol I was super excited to finally be able to watch him DJ. We arrived way too early which has its merits. You see, only the people that organize and are involved with the party are there that early and as the saying goes “the early bird gets the first worm”, and in this case I was the early bird, and Daniel Steinberg AKA Harry AXT was my worm. I spotted him standing against the bar drinking a cocktail so meandered over and introduced myself. My hero did not disappoint. He was friendly, super down to earth and a sweet heart. He imparted some words of advice and encouragement and divulged some of his music production secrets to me. Then he introduced me to the party promoters and other DJ’s. Heaven. My friends and I danced until the first fluorescent lights came on at 6 am, then walked the 2 minute journey home. I am kicking myself that I did not take a photo of us when we had the chance. Damn it! A top night though.
