Hello Madrid!
Wow, what a week! The big move started at 5.30 am on Monday morning with a quick venture down to the beach for a skinny-dipping session at sunrise. It was freezing cold, but fun. It’s been non-stop since then. Not even sure what day it is today.
The relocation from Barcelona to Madrid was executed flawlessly. Came with my friend from Barcelona who has lived here before and we had made our first friend and future flatmate within hours of arriving. The three of us spent the first few days exploring the city on foot and getting acquainted with the different areas. It’s a big city yet so easy to walk everywhere and each barrio has its on vibe. It is really cool. Took the first apartment we looked at too because of the perfect location and decent price in the very center of Madrid. The only trouble was that the apartment is on the third floor and there are no elevators, so without a man in sight to assist, had to drag my 50 kg turntables and mixer travel case, plus three shamefully huge suitcases up all the stairs by myself, but at least it doubled as a good workout.
Madrid is amazing. Loving it so far. Just feels so good to be here. So much going on. Everyone is really friendly and open. We were stopped and interviewed on the street by Channel 4, a Spanish TV network. My Spanish, being as ridiculously bad as it is, I kept quiet and let the other two girls do all the talking – just kept nodding and smiling as I barely kept up with the questions and responses – something to do with Madrids bid to host the Olympic Games? Been out every night looking for some underground house / techno clubs, but no such luck yet, just stumbling across tourist bars playing #cringe# Madonna and other skin crawling pop music. Not giving up – I know they have a big electronic scene here, just need to find and get in amongst it!
Funds are getting low after paying another apartment deposit, so the next step is to focus on the financial situation and get some serious cash flowing in again. As long as it does not involve prostitution, selling drugs or working a 9-5, then it’s all good…
Time for a late meal and siesta before tonight’s festivities as the Search for Madrid’s Best Electronic Music Clubs continues. Watch this space.
BTW, here is a link to a great blog. Carla, is a good friend of mine and made the journey with me from Barcelona. She is awesome and her blog is awesome too – it’s all about moving to Spain. Enjoy!
Welcome back. Thanks for visiting!
