Make Money Blogging – Is it REALLY Possible? An Experiment…
I have to say, ENOUGH! If you are in the blogging world, or considering a career change to blogging, then you will have probably done some research to find out how much money exactly you can make, like I did. And if you were encouraged by what you saw and consequently started your blogging career, then you may have been highly frustrated, irritated and just plain p*ssed off by the subsequent conflicting information to be found.
Now, money was not my original goal when starting this blog, in fact, the entire endeavor was inspired by The Kiwi Millionaire. A typical guy from NZ on the Quest to Make a Millionaire dollars in 365 days. It was really cool what he was doing, and I knew I had the sufficient content from my Quest for the Ultimate Lifestyle adventures to start my own blog / website. It was only AFTER I started the blog that I discovered “Adsense Advertising” and being curious, soon discovered some blogs (i.e. Steve Pavlina + some more) which ‘confessed’ to how much money there is to be made in the blogging world…. think in excess of $40,000 USD per month. JACKPOT! Or so I thought.
With those figures running through my head, my blog took on an entire new meaning and purpose. For months I took an intensive crash course learning about online advertising, monetizing blogs, creating high traffic websites, keywords, HTML coding, analytic software, online courses etc etc etc. My head is spinning making sense from this new world information. Even my music was neglected for a while there too.
This website / blog has become one of my main priorities, and that does not happen lightly. It was a conscious commitment to dedicate just as much time to my blog, as to my music and to the rest of my life. It changed my lifestyle.
But this is where I get a little peeved off. Months after reading Steve Pavlina’s original post advising that not only is it possible but there is a fortune to be made and the lifestyle it awards are unparalleled, that I then discover another bloggers article vehemently advising why it is NOT possible to make money from blogging and ultimately a waste of time if you are pursuing it as your bread and butter income. They are both powerful and convincing reads, so who am I to believe now?
Did Steve Pavlina just write an article on How to Make Money from blogging just for his own ulterior motives? or is it the *evil bitch Penelope Trunk with the hidden agenda for dissuading others from making a career from blogging… who is telling lies here ladies and gentleman? Who has put their reputation on the line?
But then there is the guy I met in Barcelona who started a hobby website on gaming two years ago and is now making enough money to go to part time in his day job – and he is just focusing on the Spanish market… surely that means there are more opportunities with my website being in English and focusing on a much larger, international market?? Surely!
But always so much conflicting information!
It is the Blogging World’s greatest mystery : Can We Simple Mortals Make Money from Blogging? I am DETERMINED to find out.
I am going to be posting updates of my progress as time goes on so you can be keep updated. I’m not going to hide anything from you, if I make no money and nobody visits my blog, then I am going to swallow my pride and tell you.
So, to begin here are my visitor stats since starting this website for the months of August and September 2009… with the total revenue earned during these months a HUGE 6.33 euros. Staggering, yes, I know 
BUT I have FAITH and REFUSE TO GIVE UP!

I was just at the World Blog Expo, and I was shocked at the number of bloggers I met who have never made a dime. The ones making money, barely make enough to cover their blogging expenses. Sure, there are some celebrated internet celebrities who do make a living blogging – but what people need to understand is just how rare they are.
I love to blog, and the process of building my blog (ricksmith.me). BUT, my goal has never been to make money. It is to create some rigour around my intellectual process, and connect with my community. There are numerous reasons to blog, but making money is way, way down on the list.

Great post. I really hope you continue to go at it and inform us of your results. I have scaled the internet and have yet to get any real picture of the reality of blogging.
