Spiritual Quotient (SQ)

Spiritual Quotient (SQ)

Spiritual Quotient (SQ) is the third value in a set of three measurements that combine to create a more balanced and complete picture of your overall capacity for wisdom and ultimate ability to live a happier and more rewarding life.

While Intelligence Quotient (IQ) is a measure of your ability to solve logical problems, and Emotional Quotient (EQ) refers to your ability to gauge the emotional dynamics of a situation; Spiritual Quotient (SQ) is your depth for perception and intuition. Someone with a high Spiritual Quotient, is a person who is in tune with their connection to nature, a person who is fully aware of the diversity, complexity and absolute wonderment of the fascinating world and universe we all inhabit and lives their life from this perception and understanding.

Human beings in particular are an especially exotic species. We are, by the nature of our bodies and primitive emotional reactions, animals, yet our intellectual capabilities have ensured our place as the most dominating and powerful beings on earth. We are so intellectually superior to the rest of the animal kingdom, that we are even reluctant to identify ourselves as belonging to the animal kingdom, which is ironic because we partake in such obvious animalistic behavioral habits such as foraging, mating and fighting. A rose called by any other name, is still a rose.

Because of our cultures collective desire to disassociate from the rest of the animal kingdom, as a bi-product, we have also disassociated as a society from our connection to nature. Over the decades, this ignorance has tainted even the word ‘Spiritual’, giving it connotations of dirty hippies, hallucinogenic imagined fairies, dubious tarot card readers and restless vagabonds, creating a divide between the big business, corporate type personalities who shy away for these type of connotations, and people who are much more in touch with the natural elements of our world. Until just recently, Western psychology has tended to completely ignore the spiritual dimension of the human psyche, focusing purely on the tangible, scientific, strategic and linear, so because our Spiritual Quotient is an abstract measurement with no definitive, clear-cut, black and white methods for evaluating it, its importance, merits and values have been completed lost on our preceding generations.

Developing a high Spiritual Quotient does not require any religious sacrifices, devotions or beliefs, nor does it mean sacrificing luxuries, material possessions or wealth. There is a perfect balance. Developing a high Spiritual Quotient is simply being aware and appreciating that we, as human beings, are as much a part of nature as the birds and the bees, the flowers and the trees, and the clouds up above. We rely on earth to nurture and provide for us, and when we die, our bodies are returned to earth, so to acknowledge this on a day by day, minute by minute, second by second basis, changes the way we view and approach life.

When we are in tune with our connection to nature, it empowers us to take control of our lives. While a high Emotional Quotient will help us read the emotional dynamics of a situation and aid us in responding appropriately for the best outcome, a high Spiritual Quotient allows us to question if we even wanted to be in that situation to begin with, then encourages us to create new experiences and situations based on our true, inner desires, gradually transforming us and our lives in the process until we realize our highest potential and begin to live self actualized lives, as the self actualization of nature itself.

When we are connected to nature, in tune with our bodies and our relationship to earth, we live in peace. We live with the day to day commotion which dominates our lives, we witness and experience, yet never partake in the drama. We are more self aware, self assured, feel more relaxed and alive and are more intuitive.

Just like the other two elements in this dynamic trio (IQ and EQ), your Spiritual Quotient can be raised with commitment, focus and consistent effort. Developing a peaceful mind is imperative, and also taking the time to really ponder and contemplate the following questions will help to recondition your mind to be more conscious of our worlds greatest mysteries :

1. What is the meaning of life?

2. Why are we born?

3. Why do we die?

4. What is consciousness?

5. How did the earth and us come to be?

Though these may be cliche questions, they are questions that have puzzled our worlds greatest thinkers for millenniums. Do not let this intimidate you – by pondering and contemplating on these questions while you go about your day to day life, you will ultimately come to your own intuitive understanding, helping you put your entire life into perspective and ultimately leading you to raise your Spiritual Quotient.

If you tend to avoid anything with spiritual connotations, then you may also have to confront your own preconceived ideas about Spirituality. Investigate your own beliefs, understand where they were learned and came from, what your beliefs are based on, and what preconceived ideas you have of accepting and acknowledging your own essential nature.

Dude, it took five + hours to write this article. Having a donation system established for anyone who wishes to support my endeavors financially, or just to show their appreciation, isn’t a big deal.

G.O.I (Get Over It) and show some love.

Hey Lara, just read your article – so true huh. I always think that as humans (adult humans) we shut out and unlearn things like instincts and connection to nature like you mentioned. It’s not logical/ measurable or marketable so we ignore it – and in doing so, look what we have done to our surroundings!

You know how suddenly you have this feeling that you’re being watched? There’s no rationale for it so you ignore it right? But think how for example a deer being sighted through the cross hairs of a rifle hundreds of metres away intuitively knows he’s being watched and raises his head.

I heard on the radio the other day that as the big tsunami hit Indonesia that several years ago now on new years, tourists riding on elephants walking down a mountain (cant recall which country – sri lanka maybe?) were surprised when the elephants suddenly all turned around and started walking back up the hill despite their trainers best efforts – but unbeknownst to them, many miles below, the tsunami was on its way – weird huh! (or maybe it was their big ears!)

As a species, we have so much to learn about the basic dynamics and spiritual connection to nature it’s actually quite embarrassing – I was actually having a conversation this morning about how a people like the Native Americans were so very in tune with their land, and the connection to buffalo, the mountains, trees, rivers all in a cyclic manner that we somehow have lost.

Thanks for your thought provoking article!

Lara–thanks for the good work and nice insights. Nice.

I want to recommend to people a non-profit published book that goes right along with the discussion happening here, its called STEPS TO KNOWLEDGE: THE BOOK OF INNER KNOWING by award-winning author Marshall Vian Summers. entire book is up to peruse and begin studying today. It has changed my life so much for the better, not the least of which, it reconnects you with your innate spiritual intelligence, the deeper first mind, that we are born with called Knowledge.

STEPS TO KNOWLEDGE can be read and studied, free online, at http://www.newmessag.org/books/steps-to-knowledge.php

Second, in relation to what Brian wrote about responding to signs in nature externally but more importantly seeing how we feel inside about things, and how that has become latent in many of modern mankind’s interactions with life and in many of the human family in general, there is another book by Marshall Summers, just released in Sept. 09 called The Great Waves of Change: Navigating the Difficult Times Ahead. 4 free chapters of it are avail for free download and sharing at http://www.GreatWavesOfChange.org
And yes you’re right Brian, the elephants did respond. The animals in the area of the tsunami did respond. But the humans did not.
As the Great Waves book points out repeatedly, humans with while superior intellectually–in our far greater range of sensory awareness, greater intellect, and greater communication skills to manipulate their environment–we completey inferior when it came to something as simple as watching and responding to what was happening around them in nature and their immediate/regional environment. Something so simple as checking in periodically in each environment to see how that environment feels, and whether we should be there or not gets missed. So, with the animals and the tsunami, the humans were out on the beach collecting shells as the seas receded before the tsunami rolled in, and the elephants elsewhere were breaking their chains in their zoos and elsewhere and heading for higher ground. They felt it. When the great waves are felt by the animals, they become quiet and seek shelter, like in a tornado or earthquake leadup as well, but the humans are out playing golf and get struck by lightning, or they’re climbing mountains and get stranded in blizzard or flash flood.

So, at a wisdom level, basically, at its essence, who is more intelligent? The animals are in most cases. They’re living in balance and harmony with nature and their species. They’re preparing and setting aside stores for the future. They’re maybe even stockpiling basic goods for a rainy day or for the winter/cold season. They do this because its wise and its cautious. We humans have largely lost our caution. Also as you so excellent pointed out Brian, we humans DO need to learn from nature, and become like the deer in the field, always watching & listening for what is coming and how we feel about our environment, because our environment now is in great decline and we’re going to have to adapt and prepare now, more inside than outside, 3/4 of the prep will be internal, for the Great Waves of Change now impacting the entire human family, at this time.

We have all been sent here, at this time, with a greater mission in the world to fulfill to help a struggling humanity and to preserve our incredibly rich planet’s biological resources. This is, in general, for all of us is why we have come to the world, to be here at this time. This is humanity’s greatest opportunity, greatest danger, and greatest threshold of development and change ever, and many people sense and feel this, and that is why so many, especially the young and un-married and un-bound are looking and searching for the key to who we are, why we are here, and what we have come to do, at this time in history. This new message for humanity contains those answers in the simplest, most pure, most potent way possible. I invite you now to consider these 2 books at your own pace and most important, to go have your own experience of this incredible work now. namaste.

The awards referred to in my post are broken out in details as such.

First award received was that given to STEPS TO KNOWLEDGE by Marshall Summers, this 500 page book was accorded was The Book of the Year for Spirituality for the Year 2000 in the U.S. by Foreward Magazine. Steps to Knowledge was received by Summer’s over a 14 day period in December of 1989 in a state of revelation.

Summer’s newest book THE GREAT WAVES OF CHANGE: NAVIGATING THE DIFFICULT TIMES AHEAD, is currently a finalist for Book of the Year for 2009, also by Foreward Magazine. I said too much above, and for that I apologize. The Great Waves of Change are largely the result of humanity’s use and overuse of the planet, and although these great changes are unprecedented in human history, we have a choice, as individuals and nations as to how we will respond to these great waves which boil down to these trends of planetary change:
-growing economic hardship and political instability
-declining energy resources and natural resources
    -climate change and catastrophic weather
-loss of arable land and in some areas, loss of fresh water
    -pandemic disease
-escalating worldwide competition over resources, leading to possible conflict and war

Really, what is most important is that YOU, as a person in the world at this time, have the opportunity to have your OWN experience of these incredible books for yourself. Besides all the free chapters, interlibrary loan at your library, for virtually free in most cases, is an excellent way to read a book which may not be in your local library’s collection on hand. This is how I first read and started to practice a Step from Steps to Knowledge daily, back in 2005, and have been forever changed so much for the better, ever since.
Thank you again Lara and Brian and all who participate here and thank you for responding to that discomfort and unease that is so prevalent in the world’s peoples today. namaste.

  6. Lara Jane says:

Hi, thanks for all the information about those books. Will be sure to check them out soon.

It is fascinating to learn of the elephants who foresaw the tsunami. Incredible. And a very interesting question you proposed, who is really wiser on the fundamental level – the animals or humans? There is no denying our intellectual capacities, but you are right, animals are more connected to nature and our environment, but is that wisdom? or merely their automatic and natural connection to earth?

Thanks again for the book recommendations.
    Peace and much love
    Lara

  7. Anirudh Kumar Satsangi says:

Spiritual quotient (S.Q.) can be expressed mathematically as the ratio of parasympathetic dominance (PSD) to sympathetic dominance (SD).

  8. Lara Jane says:

Very interesting. Where can I find more information about this?

  9. Anirudh Kumar Satsangi says:

    Thank you Lara.

In Bhagavad-Gita Lord SriKrishna says to Arjuna:

“I taught this immortal Yoga to Vivasvan (sun-god), Vivasvan conveyed it to Manu(his son), and Manu imparted it to (his son) Iksvaku. Thus transmitted to succession from father to son, Arjuna, this Yoga remained known to the Rajarisis (royal sages). It has however long since disappeared from this earth. The same ancient Yoga has this day been imparted to you by Me, because you are My devotee and friend, and also because this is a supreme secret”.

At this Arjuna said: You are of recent origin while the birth of Vivasvan dates back to remote antiquity. How, then, I am to believe that you taught this Yoga at the beginning of creation? Lord SriKrishna said: Arjuna, you and I have passed through many births. I remember them all, you do not remember.

Famous historian Romila Thapar has described in her book A History of India about the status of Yoga in 300-700 A.D. She writes: “Yoga (Application) which was based on the control of the body physically and implied that a perfect control over the body and the senses led to knowledge of the ultimate reality. A detailed anatomical knowledge of the human body was necessary to the advancement of yoga and therefore those practising yoga had to keep in touch with medical knowledge.”
As far as anatomical knowledge of human body is concerned it is very much required for the optimum result during practice of Yoga. Yoga system has very close connection with the human anatomy i.e. chakra or nerve centres distributed along the spinal column and in brain region.

Besides, connection chakras with the practice of Yoga, chakra has also great role in the development of personality. People do not realise that personalities can grow to include a balance of all the six chakras. Jung referred to this growth process as “individuation”, and associated it with life’s spiritual dimension. Danah Zohar evolves a model of spiritual quotient (sq) based on the six petals of a lotus and its centre, corresponding to the seven chakras described by the Hinduism’s Kundalini Yoga, as an aid to the process of individuation in the mid-1990s. Contribution of Danah Zohar for coining the term spiritual quotient for the first time is immense. But she did not establish any mathematical relationship, which is very much required, for this quotient.

Deepak Chopra has given a formula of spiritual quotient in terms of Deed (D) and Ego (E). According to Deepak Chopra S.Q. =D/E. He (2006) writes: If Vedanta is right and there is only one reality, then all desires must follow the same mechanics, desires arise and are fulfilled in consciousness. Making yourself happy involves ….. I have a ” Spiritual Quotient” where SQ = D/E. Where D = Deeds and E = Ego. Now you can ONLY have an SQ = infinity when E = 0. If E is little even then SQ is approaching infinity (or one is close to be a “Great Master”) but not actually “Pure .This appears to be very fascinating but it is highly abstract which cannot be measured experimentally, accurately and precisely. However, this formula has immense value to understand S.Q.

I have also discovered a mathematical relationship for S.Q about eight years back in 2001. I have used physiological parameters which can be measured accurately and precisely and can be tested and verified experimentally. According to this formula S.Q. can be expressed as the ratio of parasympathetic dominance (PSD.) to sympathetic dominance (S.D.). Parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS) and sympathetic nervous system (SNS) are the two parts of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) which is largely under hypothalamic control. Hypothalamus is situated very close to the Sixth Chakra. During practice of meditation at Sixth Chakra these centres are galvanized which has very positive effect on practitioners spiritual, emotional, psychological and physical well being.

According to this relationship spiritual quotient can be written as:

    S.Q. = PSD./SD.
If the value of S.Q. comes >1 (greater than one), it can be assumed that the person is moving towards self-realisation and if the value of S.Q. comes <1 (smaller than one) it can be predicted that the person is living under stress.

There are various types of meditation available, which are being practiced by sages, saints, seers and others. The difference in various versions lies in the fact that these practices involve concentration to meditate at different centres known as Chakra in Yoga System. These chakras are, in fact, energy centres which correspond to nerve centres distributed along the spinal column and in brain region.

Some practitioners start to meditate at Basic/Root Chakra (Muladhara) – situated at the base of spine, some at Heart Chakra (Anahata Chakra), some at Ajna Chakra – Optic Chiasma – Master Chakra and some from even higher centres situated in the brain region. Among all these types of meditation, practice at sixth chakra is considered to be the most ideal which brings about optimum results.

Sixth Chakra is situated very close to hypothalamus. The hypothalamus is a portion of brain that contains a number of small nuclei with a variety of functions. One of the most important functions of the hypothalamus is to link nervous system to the endocrine system via the pituitary glands.

Autonomic nervous system (ANS) is largely under hypothalamic control. ANS consists of parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS) and sympathetic nervous system (SNS). PSNS is activated during meditative calm and during stress SNS is activated. When PSNS is activated, heart rate, breathing rate, blood pressure decreased. Supply of blood in the digestive tract increased. When SNS is activated heart rate, breathing rate, blood pressure increased. Supply of blood to the muscles and exterior organs increased and to the digestive tract decreased. In addition to these, there are many other parameters which can be compared. Parasympathetic Dominance (P.D.) is the state of PSNS activation and Sympathetic Dominance (S.D.) is the state of SNS activation. Instruments are available in medical science to measure these parameters.
Now we can assign numerical value to each parameter. Then put the value in the formula for S.Q. and see the result. We can show the calculation as mentioned below:

    S.Q.= PSD/SD = ? X / ? Y
    Where X=x1+x2+x3+ …….
    And Y=y1+y2+y3+…….
During PSNS activation (PSD.), we assign ‘1’ to each parameter (x1+x2+x3+…..) and ‘0’ to each parameter (y1+y2+y3+…..). During SNS activation (S.D.), we assign ‘1’ to each parameter (y1+y2+y3+…) and ‘0’ to each parameter (x1+x2+x3+….).

By putting the numerical value, thus achieved, in the above formula for S.Q. we can calculate the Spiritual Quotient of an individual.

  10. Lara Jane says:

    Hi Anirudh

wow, this really is fascinating. Deepak Chopra’s formula for measuring SQ, while abstract and not scientifically measurable, is a more simple formula to gauge our developmental process. Knowing that SQ = D/E (Deed / Ego) it instantly implies that to increase in SQ we need to have more D (Deed) and less E (Ego) (or ideally zero Ego). This gives us an every day guide to live by, something more tangible and real that we can work on and develop personally. By actively and purposefully doing more (good) Deeds, while simultaneously reconditioning our egoic mind (catching and modifying egoic thought as it happens) we then know we are on the path to attaining a high SQ.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write and explain. Very much appreciated.

    Thank you!
    peace and much love
    Lara

  11. Anirudh Kumar Satsangi says:

I agree with you dear Lara. But deed and ego are more qualitative than quantitative. They are difficult to be quantified which is a necessary condition for being expressed as quotient

Thank you for your kind appreciation.

With Love and Very Best Wishes

    Anirudh

  12. Lara Jane says:

Hmmm interesting. I see your point. However, regardless of Deepak Chopra’s formula being more qualitative, than quantitative, and therefore not able to be expressed as an accurate quotient, it is still a useful tool to gauge our personal development in the SQ realm of life.

    Hope you enjoyed your weekend.

    Peace and much love
    Lara

  13. Anirudh Kumar Satsangi says:

Yes, I enjoyed fruitful interaction with you during this weekend.

    Plenty of love

    Anirudh

  14. Anirudh Kumar Satsangi says:

    Dear Lara

Deed (D) can directly observed but Ego (E) can’t. There is always a possibility of false signal for Ego. It may signal ‘Yes’ when it ‘No’ and it may signal ‘No’ when it is ‘Yes’. So they can’t be measured accurately. But the formula which I have developed for SQ is the indicator of emotional stability which is a prerequisite for spiritual growth. Emotional behaviour is under control of autonomic nervous system (ANS). ANS is divided into parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS) and sympathetic nervous system (SNS). During parasympathetic dominance (PSD) PSNS is activated and during sympathetic dominance (SD) SNS is activated and they can also be measured accurately. Therefore, the mathematical formula for SQ as the ratio of PSD and SD as suggested by me is more scientific.

Dear Lara I am very much impressed by your deep and scientific understanding and clarity of spiritual matters. I hope to receive your support ever.

Best wishes and love to you

    Anirudh

  15. Lara Jane says:

    Hello Anirudh

I agree absolutely, your formula is more scientific and tangible, but on a day to day basis is not something that we can use to measure / gauge our ’spiritual development’. Perhaps we just identified an untapped market for a household gadget that would measure our spiritual quotient progress every morning (like the weight scales in the bathroom) incorporating the technology that you mentioned above in your formula??! ;)

Hope you are having a wonderful week and I’m sure we’ll speak again soon
    Peace and much love
    Lara
PS and thanks for the kind words / compliments

  16. Anirudh Kumar Satsangi says:

OK dear Lara. Do you believe in rebirth or reincarnation. I believe in it and I know about my previous birth. I was a spiritual head of a modern religion in my previous birth. If you are interested in it I will let you know the details.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

I enjoyed a lot with you during this week.

    Best wishes and love

    Anirudh

  17. Anirudh Kumar Satsangi says:

Thank you dear Lara for posting my above comment in your blog. A very useful blog indeed. I am interested in your views with this regard. If you have some constraints to put your views publicly we may discuss through e-mail in this matter (Reincarnation).

Best wishes and much love to you

    Anirudh

  18. Lara Jane says:

    Hi Anirudh

Apologies for not replying sooner –

Reincarnation? I guess I believe in it in the sense that because we are apart of nature, we are essentially energy so that when our ‘bodies’ die, our energy transmutes into something else and carries on – that’s what they taught us in Science class – that energy never dies, or just disappears – it always continues and changes into different energetic manifestations. Whether that is into another human form (reincarnation in the matter you’re referring to), or simply back into the earth, I’m not sure, but returning back to the earth seems more plausible i.e. if I were to die, my body would be buried and would begin to decompose – contributing to the ecosystem by feeding the insects and worms which then go on to nourish the soil of the land that then provides the fruit and plants that humans and the rest of the animal kingdom survives on – ultimately becoming the food energy which sustains other living beings.

I’m sure that theory is riddled with scientific inconsistencies and errors, but to me, that is what reincarnation is.

    Your thoughts?

    Peace and much love
    Lara

  19. Anirudh Kumar Satsangi says:

Thank you dear Lara for replying. Energy also disappears. There are four fundamental forces known in physics. They are gravitational force, electromagnetic force, weak nuclear force and strong nuclear force. At the beginning of the universe only gravitational force were issued forth from the Supreme Creator and all other forces manifested from it later on. And again at the time of ‘implosion’ electromagnetic force, weak and strong force merge into gravitational force and only one force remains at the end of the creation

I will let you know about my previous birth later.

I am happy that you are the Founder of Ultimate Lifestyle Project. Congratulations and best wishes. I want to know about the objectives and scope of this project. I would also like to associate with this project if you so desire.

    Love to you

    Anirudh

  20. Lara Jane says:

    Good morning Anirudh

I would be interested in knowing what exactly you mean by “Supreme Creator” and I would be interested in hearing more about your experiences of previous lives.

Let’s continue discussing offline. I will email you with my contact details.

    Peace and much love
    Lara Jane

  21. Anirudh Kumar Satsangi says:

Thank you Lara for your continued interest in my comments. Supreme Creator means the Point of Origin of our Cosmos.

    Good Luck. God Bless you.

    Lara, and Anirud and others:

What did you feel from your experience of the book STEPS TO KNOWLEDGE: THE BOOK OF INNER KNOWING?

And the 4 free chapters of the newest book THE GREAT WAVES OF CHANGE: NAVIGATING THE DIFFICULT TIMES AHEAD?

Anyway, please feel free to check out the chapters as I did (and no I can vouch for the fact that my email was never sold or spam sent to me) at http://www.greatwavesofchange.org

There are also the first half of GREATER COMMUNITY SPIRITUALITY: A NEW REVELATION online to be read at your leisure, also provided at the request of the author Marshall Summers, to be shared with the world free at:
    http://www.newmessage.org/books/greater-community-spirituality-contents.php

Really fascinating and eye opening. I’ll provide a quote below to leave you with from GCS now. Namaste–

IN THE GREATER COMMUNITY, GOD IS KNOWLEDGE. In the Greater Community, God is experience. In the Greater Community, God is the communication of profound insight and recognition from one to another, permeating all manifest life. This comes into being in the realm of your experience.

God seems like different things to different people and to different races of beings in the Greater Community, but the essential experience that ignites the desire for God, the awareness of God and the relationship with God is the same everywhere. This religious impulse, the impulse towards union with God, is universal. Though it seems remarkably absent in some cultures and aberrantly expressed in others, the impulse is the same. What God is must be expressed in terms of your range of experience and your capacity for experience. In the Greater Community, God is so total and complete that any definition would always falter and fail.

Therefore, let us say that God is the experience of total relationship. You can experience this for a moment here and there and for longer periods should you prepare in The Way of Knowledge. This is an experience which can both be translated from one world to another and shared and demonstrated from one being to another, bypassing and transcending all divergences of race, culture, temperament and environment. This is God. God for you is God in action. God for you is an experience that is unlike any other experience in life, yet this experience gives meaning to all of your other experiences.

In the Greater Community, God is complete. In your world, God is a God of your world, a God of your race, a God of your history, a God of your temperament, a God of your fears and aspirations, a God of your great heroes, a God of of any your great tragedies, a God that is related to your tribe and your time. But in the Greater Community, God is so much greater, so complete—beyond the definitions of any race, beyond the history of any race, beyond the temperament, fears and aspirations of any race, beyond the grasp of any individual or collective philosophy. And yet, you find God in a pure impulse, in a timeless moment of recognition, in the desire to act beyond the sphere of your own personal interests and motives, in the recognition of another, in the motive to give, in the inexplicable experience of affinity. These are translatable. This is God in action. For you, this is God.

  23. cdog says:

And while I meant to say this in my earlier post (sorry), the Way of Knowledge is really the way of experiencing directly your divine innate connection with God. So while ideas and concepts are fun to speculate on, this pathway, provided by its non profit publisher to everyone, is so pure and so rooted in getting beneath the surface of the mind in daily contemplation and stillness meditations that incrementally begin to engage the practitioner with the deeper spiritual intelligence we’re all born with, the intelligence and power of Knowledge or inner-knowing. For we have to minds, the mind that thinks–which has been conditioned by the world and our social conditioning–and the mind that Knows, and it is to cultivate the mind that knows that represents the great work of this profound book of power in Steps to Knowledge: The Book of Inner Knowing. These daily Steps, taken everyday, over a very short period of time, begin to get you free of the surface intellect and its ceaseless thinking, planning, worrying, fearing, and begin to engage you naturally, step by step, with the deeper spiritual intelligence of Knowledge. It is a vast, deep, resonant place with you, and within all of us, that has been spoken of throughout the millenia by messengers of the past and throughout folklore, it is powerful and it is meant for each of us to experience and have a relationship with, to guide us through our journey in the world, at this time. After all, as the book The Great Waves of Change asks, without using the power that God has put within you, has else will you really know what to do facing the Great Waves of change?

I’ll briefly give an example with Step 8 below for you to have an experience from Steps to Knowledge: The Book of Inner Knowing–The Book of Practices and its power and simplicity to empower you in your life, as you are now (the bracketed suggested point I added to help a bit, I find this point works very well):

    “Step 8
    TODAY I WILL BE STILL.

IN YOUR TWO MEDITATION PRACTICES TODAY, practice stillness
for 15 minutes. Begin by taking three deep breaths and then
focusing on an internal point. It may be an imaginary point or it may
be a point in your physical body [such as the point just a few inches
    "in" from your solar plexus].
With eyes closed, simply give this your full attention,
without judgment and evaluation. Do not be discouraged if early
    attempts prove difficult. Beginning anything
important in life can be difficult at first, but if you persist, you will
achieve this great goal, for in stillness all things can be known.

PRACTICE 8: Two 15-minute practice periods.”

  24. Anirudh Kumar Satsangi says:

Practice of concentration to meditate at sixth chakra is the best form of meditation.

  25. Lara Jane says:

Hello Anirudh, lovely to see you active here again!

Would you kindly explain what it means to meditate on the sixth chakra? i.e. “where” is the sixth chakra located in the body? and when you say “meditate”, do you mean to focus all your awareness on that chakra?

    Peace and much love
    Lara
