The Secret of Happiness

The Secret of Happiness

It’s the greatest paradox in the history of man kind – that which we seek with the most passion, we already possess. The secret of happiness is within our very own mind and heart.

We search outside ourselves for possessions and experiences in the vain hope that eventually we will accumulate enough to satisfy our superficial desires and be happy. We naively believe that the secret of happiness is directly connected with financial success and material objects.

Of course wealth will afford you with a comfortable life and the pleasures of luxury, but regardless of the size of your home, three cars and yacht, how respected you are by your colleagues and community, or how beautiful your spouse and children are, unless you have made the effort to develop a peaceful mind, then true happiness and your best life will always evade you.

The secret of happiness, true happiness, is the feeling of being at peace with yourself, others and life, the feeling that everything is always going to be absolutely a-okay, of being totally in love with the world, of feeling so eternally grateful that you have a burning desire to help others succeed in finding happiness and being happy, the feeling that makes your heart sing, your step a touch lighter and puts a little grin on your face…true happiness is a feeling that we are all capable of feeling right now!

Sounds dramatic does it not! Consider true happiness as the parallel opposite of feeling depressed and down. It is a tangible, powerful feeling which changes your perception of life.

Unfortunately we are blind to the happiness within because that feeling of happiness gets drowned in the thousands of chaotic thoughts streaming through our minds every single day and night, distracting us from ever detecting that subtle invitation from within while the best of life simply passes us by.

It is like a soft, sweet, melody that you only discover once you have silenced all other sources of noise in your home. Once you know what it sounds like, you realize that it was there the entire time and you keep wishing to come back to it.

Okay, happiness is not really IN your heart. That is just poetic license. But the secret of happiness definitely comes from WITHIN. It is during the process of developing a peaceful mind, through practicing to calm and decrease the incessant chatter which are your thoughts, that you quieten your mental conditions enough to enable you to truly pause for a moment and catch a glimpse of the sheer joy and majesty which is life and appreciate how we are absolutely inseparable from it all. This is the secret of happiness, true happiness.  Even if it happens for the briefest of moments, that sudden intuitive understanding and a glimpse of true happiness, smile and rest assured that you you are on the right path. The secret is to keep practicing to develop your peaceful mind, increasing those moments of true happiness until eventually you establish yourself permanently in that feeling.

Meditation helps. A lot. If you are not spiritual or religious and do not feel comfortable with the idea of meditation, that is fine, let us call it “Developing a Peaceful Mind” instead. A rose by any other name is still a rose. Do not get caught up in the name. Just ten minutes a day, every day with this practice is a fantastic start. So stop pursuing happiness as if it were a material goal to be attained, instead stop, close your eyes and turn your attention within yourself, towards that awesome potential that is is your essence and start living your best life, THE best life possible – this is the secret of happiness!

Good luck!
